Willow Gathering Basket: Round or Oval Basket with Handle

Join us for a two-day, hands-on workshop with skilled artisans Eli and Ben Goodwin. You’ll learn the traditional craft of weaving a round or oval basket, with the option to add a sturdy handle for a gathering-style basket. These beautifully crafted baskets are perfect for harvesting, storage, or everyday use.

Students will be guided through the construction of a round or oval base and a variety of weaving techniques, including: French randing, English randing, Waling, Twining, a 4-rod behind 2 border or a simple track border. For those choosing to make a gathering basket, an additional lesson on crafting a sturdy handle will be provided. Techniques can be modified to accommodate different skill levels.

Important Considerations:
Willow weaving is a hands-on craft that can be both engaging and physically demanding. If this is your first time with stake and strand weaving, be prepared for a challenge—but also for a rewarding experience! This class might be challenging for you if you have any difficulties with hand mobility or strength. First-time weavers are welcome, our instructors will guide you through the process, and adjustments can be made to support different skill levels.

The first two images show the Gathering Basket you’ll learn to make in the class. The others highlight some of Eli and Ben’s beautiful basketry in various styles.

Stay With Us
Camping option is available onsite—just bring your own tent and gear, and let us know when you register.
