About the Instructor

Kate Hirst is the founder of InnerWoven Creative, a passionate plant-dyer and botanical printing enthusiast. With a deep love for flowers and plants that began in her childhood, Kate studied Western herbal medicine before immersing herself in Ayurveda and Ayurvedic medicine. Despite her experiences in India and her lifelong connection to these practices, it wasn’t until she discovered natural plant dyeing and botanical printing that she truly found her creative path.

Kate’s journey began when she had a young child at home and started experimenting with plant-based dyes, using marigold garlands to create a beautiful orange dye bath. Her passion quickly grew to include other garden plants, weeds, and even food waste like avocado shells and pits. She taught herself the art of botanical printing and began cultivating Japanese indigo, diving deep into the ancient art of indigo dyeing.

Through her work, Kate strives to create magical, meaningful experiences by connecting with nature’s colors and bringing them to life through cloth. She is excited to share her knowledge and love for these crafts in this parent-child class, where participants can explore the beauty and creativity of natural dyeing and botanical printing together.
